The status of the four taxa Ectoedemia angulifasciella, E. atricollis, E. rubivora and E. arcuatella, has always been in debate. They have now been studied using several different systematic methods, relating to morphology, gel electrophoresis, host plant differentiation, life histories and distribution. Evidence is given here which demonstrates that they should be regarded as two pairs of sibling species.

Background: Host association patterns in Ectoedemia (Lepidoptera: Nepticulidae) are also encountered in other insect groups with intimate plant relationships, including a high degree of monophagy, a preference for ecologically dominant plant families (e.g. Fagaceae, Rosaceae, Salicaceae, and Betulaceae) and a tendency for related insect species to feed on related host plant species. A grapevine leafminer found recently in table grape orchards and vineyards in the Paarl region (Western Cape, South Africa) is described as Holocacista capensis sp. n. It has also been found on native Rhoicissus digitata and bred on that species in the laboratory. It is closely related to Holocacista salutans (Meyrick, 1921), comb. n. Stigmella tatrica sp. n. is described from moths taken in the alpine zone of the Tatra Mountains in Slovakia. The new species is similar to several other montane species of Stigmella Schrank, 1802 in the S. aurella (Fabricius, 1775) group in external characters and male genitalia; its closest relative is S. dryadella (O. Hofmann, 1868). Parafomoria halimivora n. sp. is described from southern Spain. It feeds on Halimium spp., and is assumed to be the sister-species of P. helianthemella (Herrich-Schaffer). The mine and larva of P. ladaniphila (Mendes) are described and new distribution and hostplant data for the genus are given.

The new species Roscidotoga lamingtonia is described, a leafminer on Sloanea woollsii (Elaeocarpaceae) from the subtropical rainforests of Lamington National Park, southern Queensland, and Border Ranges National Park, New South Wales. R. callicomae Hoare, 2000 is recorded for the first time from Queensland, and from Lamington National Park. These records fall within the genus’ limited range in the rainforests in eastern Australia. R. lamingtonia is the second species of the genus feeding on Elaeocarpaceae. On the basis of a few possible apomorphies we hypothesize one host-shift from Cunoniaceae to Elaeocarpaceae. DNA barcodes for R. lamingtonia and R. callicomae are given.

Heliozelidae are a widespread, evolutionarily early diverging family of small, day-flying monotrysian moths, for which a comprehensive phylogeny is lacking. We generated the first molecular phylogeny of the family using DNA sequences of two mitochondrial genes (COI and COII) and two nuclear genes (H3 and 28S) from 130 Heliozelidae specimens, including eight of the twelve known genera: Antispila, Antispilina, Coptodisca, Heliozela, Holocacista, Hoplophanes, Pseliastis, and Tyriozela. Acalyptris Meyrick: revision of the platani and staticis groups in Europe and the Mediterranean (Lepidoptera: Nepticulidae)

Trifurcula (Trifurcula) pallidella (Duponchel, 1843) is recorded for the first time from Spain, Andalusia. Previous records were misidentifications. Two leaf-miner species occur in European vineyards, i.e. Holocacista rivillei (Stainton) (Lepidoptera Heliozelidae) and Phyllocnistis vitegenella Clemens (Lepidoptera Phyllocnistidae). In the summer of 2007, leaf mines similar to those caused by H. rivillei were observed in a vineyard located in north-eastern Italy. However, the first portion of mines (linear tortuous) was lacking and thus the occurrence of a different species was suspected. Larvae were reared in controlled conditions to obtain adults and the latter differed from those of H. rivillei because of their size and wing patterns.
